Sleep is a state that, in a sense, signifies heedlessness. While absorbed in the fleeting pleasures of worldly life, we often lose touch with realities such as the existence of the hereafter, the Day of Reckoning, and Allah. This state can alienate us from our humanity, Islamic values, and the teachings of the Prophet. This noble Hadith draws our attention to the fact that this earthly life is merely a state of sleep (heedlessness) in comparison to the eternal, true life.
To awaken from this sleep during our earthly life and to turn away from thoughts, actions, and states that displease our Lord, taking heed of the Prophet's instruction "Mûtû kable en-temûtû" (Die before you die) is the sole way to reach the ultimate goal.
This striking artwork was created in 2020 by Calligrapher Muhammed Yaman in the Jali Thuluth script style using a single-line composition. Featuring illumination by Nadir Tatar, this Awakening Hadith calligraphic frame is reproduced in fine art print quality at our workshop and presented to art lovers.
