In Islamic tradition, the majority of scholars considered statues and figurative depictions prohibited. As our ancestors constantly strived to create means to remind themselves of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) under all circumstances, traditions such as the Hilye-i Şerif emerged. In addition, they inscribed certain texts that they believed would recall the Prophet into calligraphic panels, bestowing upon them special titles. In this very panel, the text believed to be inscribed on the Seal of Prophethood located between the Prophet's shoulder blades has been penned with immense elegance.
Written in 1921 in the Thuluth and Naskh script styles by Calligrapher Mehmed Emin Yazıcı, the illumination of this magnificent artwork was crafted by Gülsüm Gügercin, one of today's finest illuminators. The Şekl-i Mühr-i Nübüvvet calligraphic frame is reproduced in museum quality at our workshop and presented to art lovers.
