It emphasizes that Almighty Allah alone is Eternal and that one must turn unto Him. This noble verse was frequently inscribed by our ancestors of high refinement and wisdom on wall shelves—commonly referred to as "kavukluk"—which were reserved for the headgear of statesmen, thereby reminding property and office holders in particular of the impermanence of rank and worldly blessings.

Transliteration: Kullu man 'alaihaa faan.
Meaning: All that is therein (on earth) must pass away.
Calligrapher Osman Özçay was born in Çaykara, in the province of Trabzon in 1963. He attended the same school as his brother Mehmet in Gerede and finished high-school there. After studying at the Islamic Institute in Erzurum for two years, he transferred to the Islamic Studies Department of Marmara University in Istanbul. He graduated in 1986.
