According to the narration in Ahmad bin Hanbal’s Musnad, one day the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was distributing water while sitting with his Companions. A newcomer could not recognize him and asked, “Who is your leader?” The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) replied, “Sayyid al-qawmi khadimuhum,” meaning “The leader of a people is the one who serves them.” The man immediately realized that the person serving the water was our Prophet (pbuh).
This magnificent phrase, inscribed by calligraphers throughout history, was penned in the Jali Ta’liq script by Calligrapher Tahsin Kurt in 2010. This Hadith of Service calligraphy artwork is reproduced with museum-quality fine art print in our studio and presented to art lovers.
